Podcast #128: 05.06.14 Rob Coley

BADBADNOTGOOD - III

It’s been a while since we sourced a proper contemporary jazz mixtape so resident Rob Coley steps up to the plate this week to deliver some of his current favourites on a jazz tip. Over the 60 minutes of music, you’ll hear plenty of piano, a few different moods and of course some of the finest jazz talent plying there trade today. Whether it’s the low key opener by highly rated Canadian trio BadBadNotGood, the sound of Miguel Atwood-Ferguson’s violin on Mark de Clive-Lowe’s latest electronic opus or simply the hip hop swagger of UK newcomers RMD Groove, there’s a little something for everyone here, and the best bit is none of it is rare! So press play and if you like what you hear, remember to support the artists’ endeavours. For it’s that which will keep the scene ticking along. Thanks for listening.

On this day back in 1969, Albert Ayler was putting the finishing touches to one of his most seminal albums. We think you will all agree that if music is indeed the healing force of the universe, we need to get some bigger speakers. In the meantime, play this one out LOUD!

We’ve got a fresh mixtape up, this time from our new resident DJ Lukas Kuhn. It’s a fifty minute excursion into Czechoslovak jazz and it’s rather tasty, featuring plenty of fusion, big band and heavy jazz funk flavours. Give it a listen on the link below!
